Baobab Press seeks books and collections that communicate and support their themes through new and well-articulated means. We like risk. We like invention. More importantly, we look for a quality of thought that adds depth to a writer's concerns. And although it is not an official requirement, we tend to select literary work with a strong sense of place at its core. Ultimately, our goal is to publish work that resonates in the  contemporary climate and that will continue to resonate in years to  come. 

 If you have a 125-400 page novel manuscript we'd love to take a look. Genre fiction with a heavy literary bent will be considered. 

We currently do not consider YA or Middle-Grade novels, and please, no fan fiction.

Please let us know if any part of the novel has been published in a previous format. Simultaneous submissions are welcome as long as authors inform us immediately upon acceptance elsewhere.

If you have a 125-250 page short story manuscript that you believe  would be a good fit for our catalog, we want to hear from you. Simple as that.

Please let us know if any stories have been published in a  previous format. While inclusion in journals and chapbooks is perfectly fine, please remove work that has been previously published in another book-length collection. Failure to do so will result in immediate rejection. 

Simultaneous submissions are welcome and encouraged as long as authors have the decency to inform us immediately upon acceptance elsewhere, but please DO NOT submit more than one manuscript at a time. Wait until you have received a response before you submit again.
